১৯৩০ সালে প্যারিসে দশ বছরের রবি শঙ্কর প্রথমবারের মতো সেতার বাজিয়ে রেকর্ড করেন। এই ঘটনা তার সংগীত জীবনের মোড় ঘুরিয়ে দেয়।

১৯৩০ সালের কথা। তখন রবি শঙ্কর ছিলেন মাত্র দশ বছরের একটি ছেলে। তিনি তার বড় ভাই উদয় শঙ্করের নাচের দলের সাথে travel (ভ্রমণ) করছিলেন। ইউরোপের বিভিন্ন শহরে তারা perform (পরিবেশন) করতেন। প্যারিসে একদিন একটি রেকর্ড কোম্পানির লোক তাদের দেখতে এলেন। তারা চাইলেন দলের ছোট ছেলেটির সেতার বাজানো রেকর্ড করতে। রবি তখন সেতার শিখছেন মাত্র কয়েক বছর। কিন্তু তিনি agree (রাজি হন) করলেন। স্টুডিওতে তিনি একটি short (সংক্ষিপ্ত) সুর বাজালেন। এটি ছিল তার জীবনের প্রথম রেকর্ডিং।
